The
Hebden Bridge Vintage Cars Weekend
Calder
Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire
A Fun Day Out For All The Family
A Weekend Rally for Veteran, Vintage & Classic Cars,
Motorcycles and Commercial vehicles.
The Hebden Bridge Vintage Weekend has been a popular rally for all motor enthusiasts and, in particular, owners of veteran, vintage and classic vehicles, for over 25 years. The Yorkshire Historic Car Club have developed a reputation for running an interesting and enjoyable event and now the Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge have joined with them to help make this year even better than previous years.
As an added bonus, on Sunday, visitors to Hebden Bridge can watch the Historic Commercial Vehicle Society’s famous ‘Trans Pennine Run’ pass through the town. Hebden Bridge is an ideal location to watch this magnificent collection of historic vehicles as they wind their way across the Pennines, en route from Manchester to Harrogate.
Located in the heart of Hebden Bridge, on Calder Holmes Park, the event attracts hundreds of vehicles, of a wide variety and age, as well as numerous stalls autojumblers and entertainers. The town centre, with its wealth of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs is only a few minutes walk from the park. Hebden Bridge is worth a visit, if just to see what the British Airways in flight magazine described as ‘One of the most funky towns in the world’. Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available on site.
Throughout the weekend there will be a wide variety of stalls and entertainment
on the park including rides and other entertainment for children, live music
and catering facilities. The park also has a pitch and put golf course, a bowling
green and a children’s play area.
There are a number of competition classes, catering for
a wide variety of vehicles, as follows:
Saturday - Cars 1966 to 1986, Rolls Royce & Bentley of any age,Motorcycles
1966 to 1986
Sunday - Vintage Cars up to 1930, Post Vintage Cars 1931 to 1939,
Post War Cars 1940 to 1965,Motorcycles up to 1965, Commercial Vehicles up to
1965 and Stationary engines.
For anyone not familiar with Hebden Bridge it is located on the Yorkshire side
of the Pennines on the A646, approximately 8 miles west of Halifax and lives
up to its enviable reputation as ‘The Town for Great Little Shops’.
An ever-growing number of tourists are drawn to Hebden Bridge to sample everything
from organic cafés with a
Bohemian atmosphere to old-fashioned local pubs with real ale. Delis, gift shops,
local bakers, butchers, exotic foods, Hebden Bridge has it all, with over 150,
mainly independent, shops as well as the numerous cafes, bars, restaurants and
pubs, it lives up to its cool, liberal, artistic and creative credentials. But
it’s not just the shopping, the eating and the drinking the tourists come
for; the area has a fascinating literary history. The American poet, Sylvia
Plath is buried in the nearby village of Heptonstall and the poet laureate,
Ted Hughes was born a couple of miles away in Mytholmroyd, whilst over the hill,
in Haworth, the Bronte sisters wrote their famous novels. Visitors to the town
can take a relaxing boat ride along the Rochdale Canal or opt for something
a little more energetic and take a walk through the beautiful National Trust
owned wooded valley of Hardcastle Craggs. Deep in the Craggs the long disused
Gibson Mill has now been brought back into use as a facility for visitors and
for the local community. This groundbreaking project has renovated the Mill
as a model of sustainable development, being run with minimum impact on its
environment.
The rally organisers, the Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge, are part of a worldwide group, dedicated to helping those in need and working towards world understanding and peace. Any profits made from organising the rally will be used by the club to further these aims, by supporting projects in the UK and worldwide.
